The Authority of the Believer

by Rev. Dr. Pat Bean

It is imperative as Christians and especially intercessors that we know our authority as believers.  Then we can take our rightful place standing for righteousness and enforcing God’s commandments while opposing the forces of evil and the enemies of the cross.  The thief/enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy our lives and that of our families, friends, communities and even this world (John 10:10a).

In Luke 10:19 Jesus tells His disciples, “Behold I give unto you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions; and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall; by any means hurt you.”  The power in this verse given to the disciples is exousia which means authority (1849).  Where does this power emanate from?  It comes out of a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him" (1 John 5:14-15).
